Our Story
​
Since 2009, the Karoo Development Foundation has worked to promote synergy between all the provinces and regions of the Karoo. For this purpose, heritage routes offer wonderful opportunities!

This heritage route began in 2018, with the Go Ghaap! Route, north of the Orange River, from Griquatown to Kuruman.
​
But then we realised that this fascinating region, the Ghaap, was actually the northern part of a much longer journey - the only point of contact between the Colony near Tulbagh and the Twana of the Kalahari. From 1790 to 1830, this was the north-south highway.
​
KDF, and the Route, are not-for-profit initiatives,
aimed at supporting rural communities through heritage development,
education, social organization and livelihood opportunities.
